NSCP Working together to Safeguard Children Level 3

It is a pre-requisite of this course that you must complete the pre course reading and workbook. We will send this out to you a week before the event, so please ensure you allow time to complete prior to attending the event.

The content will include the identification and assessment of risk and need and the importance of inter-agency working to address these through from early intervention to Section 47 procedures (Children Act 1989). We will consider the child protection process in detail so that colleagues are able to contribute to assessments, child protection conferences and core groups so that outcomes for children are improved.

Learning outcomes

• Apply knowledge from legislation, polices, procedures and research to inter-agency practice.

• Strengthen awareness of your role and responsibilities, and that of others, in safeguarding children and the child protection process.

• Understand how to contribute effectively to the identification, assessment and analysis of risk and need to improve the outcomes for children.

• Understand the aims and objectives of strategy meetings and discussions, child reviews and core group meetings; including your role within these and how to develop and contribute to child protection plans.

• Recognise the importance of efficient communication and information sharing in working together to safeguard children.

Target audience

All practitioners and managers from all agencies who work directly with children, young people, adults and families who are new to their safeguarding role.

As part of your role you will have responsibility to undertake Section 47 enquiries, co-ordinate assessments of children in need, or will be expected to attend and participate in Initial Child Protection Case Conferences, Review Conferences, Strategy Meetings or Core Group Meetings.

The course is also applicable to managers and staff who work with adults where there are children in the family.

Please note non-attendance charges are applicable to everyone, so if you find you are no longer able to attend we do require 24 hours’ notice otherwise your organisation will be charged. You need to cancel your registration - failing to do so will incur a non attendance charge of £35.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must have attended an Introduction to Safeguarding Children event or completed one of the Awareness of Child Abuse and Neglect e learning modules. 

Designated Persons and Safeguarding Leads in School, College and Early Years settings must have completed specific Designated Person training prior to attending this course.

Please note: unless there is a particular reason, there is no requirement to complete this course more than once.
