NSCP Safeguarding Children and Neglect Part 1 Understanding and Recognising Neglect Level 3
Child neglect is a serious issue that involves the failure of caregivers to provide for a child’s basic needs, leading to potential harm and long-term consequences. It is one of the most common forms of child abuse and is very difficult to recognise and know how to respond to. This course is split into two parts and starts off considering what neglect is and the different types of neglect and then focuses on how to respond to neglect, including assessing neglect using the Nottinghamshire Children and Young Persons Neglect Toolkit and finally offers advice on how to have healthy and challenging conversations with parents/carers about neglect.

By the end of the course, we would hope participants will:
- Be clearer on what neglect is, and have a better understanding of the different types of neglect
- Be aware of who is more vulnerable to neglect
- Have an understanding of child development and how this can link to neglect
- Our roles in identifying and understanding neglect
- How to work with and support families where neglect is a feature
- Work through a family scenario using the Nottinghamshire Childrens and Young Persons Neglect Toolkit
