Statement on serious case review Child C

3 November 2020

"We regret the loss of any child and a loss in these circumstances is particularly devastating. Our deepest condolences are with his family and friends.

Nottinghamshire agencies have participated fully in the serious case review commissioned by Waltham Forest Safeguarding Children Board. The learning from this review, together with the learning from the report  “Safeguarding children at risk from criminal exploitation” recently published by the  National Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel, is being carefully considered by the Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Partnership to identify areas where local practice can be strengthened.

As a Partnership, we have embraced the additional statutory guidance provided by Working Together July 2018 for children at risk of criminal exploitation. We welcome the recommendation in the report for further, more detailed, guidance in this developing area of work.

Locally, we have strengthened our guidance and collective response to children who are criminally exploited. We have enhanced our work in relation to the management of risk and improved the co-ordination of support for children and their families faced with similar circumstances.

We support the recommendation within the report for the DfE to review the current arrangements to safeguard children who are educated at home (recommendation 1)."

Colin Pettigrew, Chair of the Strategic Leadership Group for the Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Partnership.
